Dr. Carol R. Bradford
Carol R. Bradford, M.D. is a Professor and Associate Chair for
Clinical Programs and Education at the University of Michigan Medical
Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She completed her medical education
and residency training at the University of Michigan. Since her
appointment to the faculty in 1992, she has served as Division Chief
of Head and Neck Surgery, as well as Co-Director of the Head and
Neck Oncology Program within the Comprehensive Cancer Center, Co-Director
of the Joint Council Approved Head and Neck Oncology Program Fellowship
and Director of the Residency Training Program.
Dr. Bradford is a leading clinician-investigator in the field of
head and neck oncology. Her primary research focus is devoted to
understanding the biology of treatment response in head and neck
cancer and to find innovative strategies to oversee treatment resistance.
She has successfully competed for a coveted R01 from the National
Cancer Institute entitled “Markers of Treatment Response in
Advanced Laryngeal Cancer.” She has authored 89 papers and
book chapters in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Bradford has served
as a role model and mentor to medical students, many of whom chose
to pursue Otolaryngology as a career choice. She received the TAMS
appreciation award for teaching from the University of Michigan
Medical Students in 2003 and the AMWA Jeanne Cady Solis Award for
mentorship. She has served in the capacity of Residency Program
Director in the Department of Otolaryngology and currently serves
on the Residency Selection Committee. She has mentored numerous
undergraduate students, medical students, residents and fellows
and many have completed successfully academic projects under her
supervision.
On a national level she holds leadership positions in key organizations.
Specifically, she serves on the Council of the American Head and
Neck Society as well as serving on the Advanced Training Council
of this organization. She serves on the Home Study Course Committee
and Research Education Committee of the Academy of Otolaryngology-Head
and Neck Surgery. She has completed a six-year term of service on
the Research Grants and Prize Committee of the Academy. For three
years, she Co-Chaired the Research Forum at the Annual Academy meeting.
She was chosen to attend the Global Institute for Leadership Development
in 2002. In 2004 she successfully completed the Leadership Development
Program, which is a collaborative effort between the Health System
and the Business School here at the University of Michigan.
