Prof. Dr. Dr. André Eckardt
Prof. Dr. Dr. André Eckardt graduated from the Dental School,
Hannover Medical University, in 1983. In 1987 he also qualified
in Medicine from Hannover Medical School. After a fellowship
in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California,
San Francisco, he started his formal residency training at the
Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Hannover Medical
University. Following residency training he continued to work in
Hannover as Senior resident and finally as Assistant Professor.
In 2000 he was promoted as Associate Professor of the Department
of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the same university.
His main clinical and research interest focuses on Head and Neck
Oncology. With his surgical background he is particularly interested
in oncologic and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck region.
Numerous clinical trials on preoperative chemo-radiation for advanced
head and neck cancer have been conducted by Prof. Eckardt as principal
investigator. In 1999 he received the Konrad-Morgenroth-Award in
recognition of his clinical work in relation to intraarterial chemotherapy
of advanced oral cancer. He holds memberships in numerous national
and international scientific societies, and presently serves as
General Secretary of the German-Austrian-Swiss study group on maxillofacial
tumours (“Deutsch-Österreichisch-Schweizerischer Arbeitskreis
für Tumoren im Kiefer- und Gesichtsbereich” (DÖSAK)
). He lectured extensively both nationwide and internationally mostly
on topics related to head and neck oncology.
