Professor Takashi Fujibayashi, DDS, PhD.
Takashi Fujibayashi is Visiting Professor of Department of Oral &
Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Dentistry, Showa University, Tokyo, JAPAN;
Executive Board, Editor-in-chief of Japanese Society for Oral Mucous Membrane
(JSOMM), Honorary member of The Japanese Stomatological Society (JSS),
Honorary member of Japan Society for Oral Tumors (JSOT), Distinguished
member of Japan Society of Clinical Oncology, Executive Board of Japanese
Medical Society for Sjögren’s syndrome (JMSSS).
He qualified in Dentistry by a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Tokyo
Medical and Dental University in 1963, and he was awarded a PhD by immunological
research works on oral mucosal lesions from Graduate School of Tokyo Medical
and Dental University in 1967. He was appointed Research Associate and
Instructor of Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Tokyo Medical
and Dental University in 1967. He was engaged in oral mucosal immunological
research at Lab. of Oral Medicine, National Institute of Dental Research,
NIH, Bethesda, MD. U.S.A. as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow by Fogarty
International Research Fellowship Program from 1973 to 1974.
He was appointed Assistant Professor in 1978 and Associate Professor
in 1995 of Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Tokyo Medical
and Dental University. Then, he was Professor and Chairman, Department
of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dokkyo University School of Medicine,
Tochigi, from 1995 to 2003.
He was previous President of Japanese Society for Oral Mucous Membrane
(JSOMM), previous Editorial Board of The Japanese Stomatological Society
(JSS), previous Editorial Board of Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeons (JSOMS), previous Editorial Board, Past President elect on 2000
Annual Meeting of Japan Society for Oral Tumors (JSOT), Past President
elect of Japanese Medical Society for Sjögren’s syndrome (JMSSS).
He was Chairman of First Asian-Pacific Workshop for Oral Mucosal Lesions
(1992 Nagoya), Committee Member of International Symposium on Sjögren’s
Syndrome (1993 Tokyo, 2002 Kanazawa), Committee Member of 4th International
Congress of Oral Oncology (1995 Gifu).
His major research fields are immunological studies on oral mucosal lesions
and oral cancer, and recent focus is put on studies on T classification
and mode of mandiblectomy in cancer of the mandibular alveolus and gingiva,
and studies on diagnostic method and criteria for Sjögren’s
syndrome and Xerostomia. He has published 60 medical books, 95 review
articles, and he is author or co-author of 120 scientific original papers.
