Prof. Dr. Eugenio Maiorano, MD. MS

Eugenio Maiorano is Associate Professor of Pathology at the University of Bari, Chief of the Head & Neck Pathology Unit and Supervisor of the Section of Immunohistochemistry at the Department of Pathological Anatomy of the same University.

He qualified in Medicine at the University of Bari School of Medicine in 1983 (Summa cum Laude) and was appointed “Best Student” (1980) and “Best Graduate” (1984) at the University of Bari School of Medicine.

His post-doctoral training includes the Post-Graduate Schools of Pathological Anatomy and of Haemathology, and he qualified Specialist in Pathology (1987, Summa cum Laude) and Haemathology (1995, Summa cum Laude) at the University of Bari. He completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Immunopathology at the Department of Pathology, University of Southern California in Los Angeles (1986) and one in Immuno-elelctron microscopy at the 2nd Department of Pathology of the University of Milan (1987-88). Also, he graduated Master in Senology at the University of Milan School of Medicine on December 2003.

He was appointed Staff Pathologist at the “Di Venere” Hospital in Bari and subsequently University Researcher (1990-98) and Associate Professor of Pathology (from 1998) at the Department of Pathology & Genetics of the University of Bari.

His research interests cover several fields of surgical pathology with a special interest in head and neck, breast and female genital tract pathology.

Professor Maiorano has lectured worldwide, mainly on head and neck pathology, breast pathology and on the prognostic-predicitive role of growth factors and receptors. He has authored 125 original research papers, 57 abstracts published in scientific journals and 47 in congress proceedings, 6 chapters in books and 2 reviews.

Professor Maiorano currently is a member of the Italian Society of Pathological Anatomy and Cytopathology (SIAPEC), the International Academy of Pathologists, the European Society of Pathology and member of the Head & Neck Pathology study group of the same Society. Also, he holds a membership with the Italian Society of Oral Pathology and Medicine (SIPMO) and with the Working Group of Oral Pathology and the Working Group of Immunohistochemistry of the SIAPEC. He is Member of the Stirring Committee for the definition of the Guidelines in Head & Neck Pathology of the National Research Council.
