Dr. Robert Ord
Born in Cardiff, Wales, UK. Trained in Dentistry at Kings College Hospital
London, England 1966 - 1970 trained in Medicine, Cardiff 1972 –
1977. Dr. Ord is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon of Edinburg,
a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has an MS in Oral Pathology
from the University of Maryland. Dr. Ord came to the University of Maryland
in 1989.
Dr. Ord is the Chairman of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department
at the University of Maryland Medical Systems and Professor at the Greenebaum
Cancer Center.
Clinical Interests
Dr. Ord’s main interest is in surgical oncology of the head and
neck i.e. management of tumors of the head and neck. Most of his surgeries
are related to cancer of the oral cavity, jaws, sinuses and salivary glands.
In addition he has an interest in the treatment of benign tumors of this
region and reconstruction of the jaws and oral cavity.
Research Interests
Dr. Ord maintains an ongoing interest in basic science and clinical
research in head and neck malignancy and also in chemoprevention trials
for premalignant lesions.
Teaching
Dr. Ord has a heavy commitment to graduate teaching at the residency
and Fellowship level. In addition he lectures widely at National and International
Meetings. I am an Examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburg, and the University
of Singapore.
Publications
Dr. Ord has published over 90 Scientific papers, 25 plus book chapters
and a book on “Oral Cancer”. He is on the Editorial Board
of the European Journal of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery, Oral Oncology,
and the Panamerican Journal of Trauma. He is the Section Editor for Oncology
for the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
