Professor Jan B Rosenquist, DDS BMS Med Dr

Jan Rosenquist is Professor and Head of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Faculty of Odontology of Malmö University, Chief Consultant at Malmö University Hospital, Scientific Advisor to the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare and Scientific Secretary of the Regional Board on Ethics.

He graduated from the Dental School in Malmö 1963 and after some years as a general practitioner he commenced his training in Maxillofacial Surgery in 1967 at the University of Umeå where he also began his medical studies simultaneous with his research. He received his BMS in 1971 and the doctorate degree in 1973 on a thesis for which he was awarded the docent title. In 1974 he was Board Certified as Maxillofacial Surgeon and was appointed Senior Research Fellow at the University of Umeå. In 1975-76 Jan Rosenquist was Visiting Scientist at the Department of Medicine of University of Washington in Seattle and at the VA Hospital in the same city. He was also affiliated with the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of the University.

In 1976 he was appointed to the Chair and Head of the Department of Oral Surgery at the University of Umeå. He was Visiting Professor at the UCLA and University of Washington, Seattle, in 1978 and at the University of Connecticut 1983-84. In 1985-87 he was Professor at the University of Hong Kong. In 1994 he moved to southern Sweden as Professor of Maxillofacial Surgery at Lund University. In 1999 the Faculty of Odontology became part of the new University in Malmö, Sweden.

1984-85 Jan Rosenquist was Associate Dean at the Faculty of Dentistry of Umeå University and Dean 1989-1993. In 1997 he was appointed Founding Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Kuwait University.

1999-2003 he was member of the Ethic's Committee of Lund University and is since 2004 Scientific Secretary of the Regional Ethics Board. He is Chief Examiner of the final year of dental studies in Malmö and External Examiner at the Faculty of Dentistry, Kuwait University. He was elected honorary member of the Baltic Associations of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1995. Jan Rosenquist is and has been Principal and Assistant Supervisor for a number of doctorate students in Odontology and Medicine and has chaired public dissertations. He has been Faculty opponent at Doctoral dissertations at the Universities in Copenhagen and Gothenburg and member of grading committees at the Universities of Umeå and Lund. He has published several scientific papers within the fields of bone biology and maxillofacial surgery.
