Dr. Fred K.L. Spijkervet
Dr. Fred K.L. Spijkervet studied Dentistry at the Rijksuniversiteit
Groningen, The Netherlands, and graduated in 1984 as DMD. After
his Military Service as Dentist, he was appointed as Clinical Researcher
at the Dept. Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, University Hospital
Groningen (1986 – 1988) on a Grant of the Dutch Cancer Society.
Dr. Spijkervet finished his PhD on oral mucositis, and graduated
on February 8th, 1989. He started his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery in 1988 and was registered as Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon
in 1992. Since 1992 he is appointed as staff member of the Department
OMFS at the University Medical Centre Groningen, The Netherlands.
He was appointed as Clinical Director of the same department in
2001. In the academic field he is active in the area of TMJ-disorders
and Chronic Pain patients, as well as the supportive care in cancer
patients, and research in Sjögren’s Syndrome. Furthermore,
Dr. Spijkervet is appointed at the University of Groningen as Associate
Professor. His education responsibility for the dental and medical
school is in the field of oral medicine. In 1999 he was honored
as ‘Teacher of the Year’. Dr Spijkervet is member of
several national and international learned societies, and member
of the national board of the Specialist Registration Committee (SRC).
He has published, as author and co-author, numerous peer reviewed
articles.
