Professor of Molecular Pathology and Genetics University of Manchester
Nalin Thakker qualified in dentistry at the University of Manchester,
UK in 1982 and after a period in general clinical training, completed
his Master of Science in Oral Pathology at University of Manchester
in 1987. He was subsequently awarded Medical Research Council Clinical
Training Fellowship to undertake research in Medical Oncology at
the Cancer Research Campaign Patterson Laboratories in Manchester
and his Doctor of Philosophy was awarded in 1990. He was appointed
as Clinical Lecturer (1990) and then Senior Clinical Lecturer (1996)
in Medical Genetics at the University of Manchester gaining his
Membership of Royal College of Pathologists in 1994. In 2003, he
was appointed Chair of Molecular Pathology and Genetics at University
of Manchester.
Nalin Thakker is a diagnostic oral and maxillofacial histopathologist.
Additional clinical interests include oro-facial manifestations
of single gene disorders.
His main research interests are in the field of genetics of oro-facial
disease and cancer. Specific interests include familial cancers,
oral cancer, single gene disorders with orofacial manifestations,
and periodontal disease.
