DAVID WIESENFELD

David Wiesenfeld is Head of Tumour Stream – Head and Neck Oncology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital; Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and School of Dental Science at the University of Melbourne. He has previously been Visiting Professor at the Universities of Bristol, Texas, Nebraska, and Case Western Reserve University Cleveland Ohio. His professional commitments include Vice -President of The Australian and New Zealand Head and Neck Society, and Head and Neck representative on the Scientific Advisory Committee of BioGrid. He is actively involved in the training of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is former Chairman of The Board of Studies in this discipline within the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
He qualified in dentistry at the University of Melbourne in 1976, competed his MDSc by coursework and minor thesis in 1980. He had further clinical training in the United Kingdom during the period 1981 to 1983, gaining Fellowship in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow 1981 and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1987 by examination. In 2004 he was awarded the Meritorious Service Award of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. In 2008 The Distinguished Service Award of the Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch, and the ANZAOMS (Victorian Members) Inaugural Medal.
David Wiesenfeld has lectured in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, the Philippines and South Africa. He has published 50 scientific articles and contributed to four textbooks. He is member of the Editorial Board of The International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
